Dr. Laurel Berger-Bishop
Dr. Berger-Bishop grew up in Norway and Kenya, and did not live in the US until she started college. Although she always wanted to be a veterinarian, she took several side trips on her way to vet school. She received double Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology and Art from Kalamazoo College, MI. She worked in various fields including marine biology, plant pathology, and phytoremediation (using plants to clean up industrial and chemically contaminated sites). She received her Master’s Degree in Herpetology at James Madison University in VA, spending 2 spring seasons in the mountains collecting and studying salamanders. She enjoyed learning so much that she then went back to school for her DVM at the University of Georgia (go DAWGS!). She received her CVA in acupuncture in 2013.
Dr. Berger-Bishop has been working primarily in Emergency and Urgent Care Medicine for the last several years. She is looking forward to also doing some General Practice, Wellness, and Preventive Care. She loves to teach and feels that it is important as a veterinarian to be able to communicate information to clients that can help them care for their pets in the best possible way. Her areas of special interest include soft tissue surgery, acupuncture, parasitology, and exotics (particularly reptiles). She herself strives to continue to learn and improve her skills. She believes strongly in preventive medicine as a way to extend our pets’ lives, and improve their quality of life.
When not at work, Dr. Berger-Bishop loves growing bromeliads, jewelry making, walking the beach, fishing, and spending time with her husband of 31 years. She has 3 furry children: a Pomeranian and 2 mixed breed dogs.
